If you're anything like us, you've been waiting for this day since about a year after the release of their last album. Four years is a long time to wait for a new EITS album, and we've pulled out all the stops to make it as worth the wait as possible. Aside from being a strong contender for their best album, it's packaged in the most outrageously deluxe artwork we've dared since the Eluvium box set. Housed (literally, it's a house) in a 10-panel quadruple gatefold cardboard jacket, with an enormous 18-panel full-color double-sided poster, and a full-color double-sided postcard - then all of that is tucked neatly inside of a full-color double-sided slipcase! The vinyl comes in THREE different artwork variants - the interiors of artwork are different colors. While supplies last, there are 3 different colored vinyl variants that match the corresponding colors of artwork. There's also a killer engraving on Side D. Words can't express how over-the-top beautiful this thing is, so soon enough we'll have to make a video to show everybody. Trust us, it's bananas. In the four years since the release of Explosions In TheSky's previous album, All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, they've amassed a steady stream of unlikelyachievements for a band most known for stirringinstrumentals that often push the 10 minute mark. Theytoured with The Flaming Lips, headlined a sold-outCentral Park concert, performed on the legendary AustinCity Limits television program, and curated theworld-renowned ATP Festival - all with the humbleresolve of a band who still hauls all of their own gear onand off the stage every night. And let's not forget theirindelible impact on the cultural landscape of film andtelevision since their breakthrough score for Friday NightLights marked an aesthetic shift towards evocative,real-life grittiness in mainstream cinema. On their fifth album, Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, the band take some of their greatest creative leaps yet, experimenting with layers

Controversial as an essential Carreras recording, West Side Story isn't an opera, and neither is the tenor, operatic star José Carreras, an American-born Broadway singer. But the music is operatic in quality--let's say in durability. It is Bernstein's most established masterpiece, his surest claim to be remembered as a composer a century from now; the source is Shakespeare and the music has a seriousness, color, and intensity worthy of its subject. And this recording represents the way the composer wanted it to sound, with his choice of the best available voices. Carreras sounds like he was born to sing "Something's Coming," "Maria," and "Tonight." Perhaps he was born to sing them in Spanish, but opera lovers regularly take bigger language problems than that in stride for the sake of vocal quality. --Joe McLellan
